Sambalpur University established as Center for Food Science & Technology in 2010 and turned into independent P.G. Department of Food Science Technology and Nutrition in the year 2018. It is an interdisciplinary center of study to offer courses on Food Science & technology and carry out research in areas of food science, food technology, food processing and Nutrition. The emphasis of the department is interdisciplinary study with social relevance. The center started functioning with the M. Tech. programme in Food Science & Technology, M. Sc. programme in Food Science with the support of Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India. Currently three courses (Two P.G. Programme and one Ph.D. Programme) are running and going to launch a new P.G. Programme (M.Sc. Food Science and Nutrition) from the coming academic session: 2018-19. In FSTN, about 50% of the students are from out of state as well as many of them are working in Food Industries of private and Govt. sector all over India.
